Revitalization of the streetscape Vazovova

The reconstruction of the public space near Vazovova Primary School was carried out in several stages, with the initial intervention being based on tactical urbanism, which was later transformed into a construction solution. The area presented many dangerous situations for pedestrians and children commuting to school, with the main issue being the location and geometry of the intersection with Mýtna Street. The radius of the intersection caused cars to enter at high speeds, endangering children on their way to school. The new layout of the intersection, its narrowing, and the repositioning of the traffic lane to a safer position mean that cars must slow down at this sensitive location, which is frequented by many children daily.

The change in the geometry of the intersection also created a new area, which now serves as high-quality paved corridors for pedestrians, separated from the road by greenery and curbs. Additionally, we replaced 336 m² of asphalt with new greenery and trees, added bike racks, benches, a crossing where people previously often crossed the road, as well as a space for short car stops. Modifications also created several new parking spaces or places for dropping off children. We also removed barriers in the space to make it accessible to everyone. Instead of a dangerous intersection with a large traffic island that served no one, we now have a safer intersection with a cultivated and green public space.
