Emotional Mapping
Emotional Mapping represent an innovative participatory tool that actively involves citizens in shaping public space by recording their subjective impressions and observations (e.g., what they like, where they do not feel safe, or where they perceive obstacles). This approach falls under the concept of GeoParticipation – the use of spatial tools to engage the public in decision-making about the urban environment.
The outputs of perception maps — usually visualized as color-coded points on a map — provide cities and urban planners with valuable data for planning investments, transport, or the improvement of public spaces. They form a basis for more open and participatory decision-making. These visualizations make it possible to identify areas with both positive and negative perceptions among residents, and thus serve as a strategic foundation for urban development.
