Principles and Standards Bratislava
The Principles and Standards form the second part of the Manual, building on the values defined in the Manifesto. They represent a set of operational documents of a more technical nature, defining the basic rules for specific elements or parts of public space, with a focus on spatial parameters within the city. Their foundation lies in the principles of design preparation and implementation.
The Manual addresses principles and rules on a general level and they cannot be applied mechanically, without regard to context. The Manual is not linked to specific locations; if such are mentioned, it is for the purpose of illustrating model solutions or examples of good or inappropriate practice. However, the principles are not an attempt at standardization or uniformity across all types of public spaces. When assessing the importance of public spaces and applying specific interventions, their hierarchical ordering should be the natural approach.
The scope of the Manual corresponds to the current need for information. It is a document that will never be finished, as it will always reflect necessary updates and changes. The division of the document into the Manifesto and individual Principles and Standards makes it possible to continuously supplement strategic frameworks with details from practice or entirely new topics.
